Carole Taylor-Tumilty, LCSW
Supervisor, Licensed Psychotherapist
“Openness to exploring your past can lead to the change you are seeking for the present.”
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who works with people in New York City and throughout New York state. I work with adults of all ages, and I specialize in supporting female-identifying clients, members of the Asian American and mixed-race communities, first-generation Americans, and anyone navigating questions around identity, culture, spirituality, and intergenerational trauma.
My Therapy Style
If you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in your relationships, or uncertain about your next steps, I offer a warm, collaborative space where we can explore what’s going on for you. Together, we’ll look at how your past may be shaping your present while also building tools to help you feel more grounded and connected in the here and now.
My approach integrates psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed practices like mindfulness, gratitude work, and grounding techniques. My lived experience as a BIPOC clinician deeply informs my work, and I strive to create a space that’s inclusive, thoughtful, and culturally attuned.
Many of the people I work with are young adults, new or expecting parents, or folks in transitional moments personally, professionally, or spiritually. Whether you're exploring your identity, processing past trauma, or seeking clarity around relationships or life direction, my goal is to help you feel empowered, supported, and more fully yourself.
I’d be honored to support you in this process. If you’re curious about working together, I welcome you to reach out for a complimentary consultation.
“Whether you’re grappling with questions about career, relationships, race, identity, spirituality, or beyond, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to collaboratively explore your present-day concerns.”
My Supervision Style
I’ve supervised early-career therapists for 2 years, in a juvenile detention setting and now within the sanctuary of private practice. I enjoy working with therapists who are just carving out their career trajectory and may be questioning their clinical decisions while struggling to balance new responsibilities. I also enjoy working with therapists who are further along in their journey and may be facing challenges surrounding the next phase of their career, including stressors with boundaries and work/life balance. I approach supervision as a space of honesty, trust, vulnerability, and non-judgmental, collaborative support. We discuss what’s happening in the therapy room with your clients but also what’s happening in you in relation to yourself and the work.
When working together, I expect reliability, active engagement, curiosity, self-reflection, and vulnerability. You don’t need to be fully evolved, you just need to show up ready to reflect and process, to listen deeply but also contribute to the process, and to seriously invest in the important work you are doing. I expect timely documentation, ethical awareness, and a sincere investment in the clients you’re holding. Supervision is a space where we can be true to ourselves and talk about anxieties, fears, hopes, and celebrate personal accomplishments. I aim to create a space that feels like a pause from the chaos of the week; a moment to breathe, decompress, and feel fully supported in whatever you need.
I genuinely enjoy working with clinicians who are curious, collaborative, open to feedback, and willing to explore the deeper, sometimes uncertain layers of their clinical work. Supervision is a safe, supportive space where you will not be judged for not having all the answers. I like to tell my supervisees that it’s not about always getting it right, it’s about learning and growing as a clinician from each new experience. So much of how we react and respond to clients has to do with our own internal biases and insecurities. Together, I’ll guide you on a journey of safely exploring your work and processes so that your client engagement can be fulfilling and worthwhile.
