About Insight Therapy
-
We offer thoughtful, collaborative psychotherapy rooted in evidence-based practices. Our therapists bring a range of expertise, from psychodynamic and relational approaches to mindfulness-based and trauma-informed care, tailoring treatment to your needs, preferences, and goals. Whether you're navigating stress, anxiety, grief, identity questions, or simply seeking deeper insight, you're in the right place.
-
We're a boutique psychotherapy practice committed to providing affordable, high-quality mental health care for people seeking meaningful, personalized support without the chaos of insurance call centers or the coldness of one-size-fits-all platforms. At Insight Therapy, you'll work with licensed and pre-licensed clinicians who are deeply dedicated to their craft and supported by ongoing clinical education. We offer a calm, private space on Fifth Avenue, as well as the flexibility of virtual care, so you can show up exactly as you are.
-
Both. We offer in-person sessions from our elegant, therapist-designed suite in Manhattan as well as virtual appointments for clients across New York State. Many of our clients opt for a hybrid model, meeting in person when possible and virtually when needed.
-
Our team includes licensed clinical social workers, psychologists, postdoctoral fellows, mental health counselors, and LMSWs working under supervision. All of our clinicians are carefully selected for their warmth, skill, and presence. What unites them is a shared commitment to ongoing growth, weekly clinical mentorship, and delivering care that’s personal, not procedural.
-
We’re located at 276 Fifth Avenue in New York City, between 29th and 30th Street. The space was intentionally designed to feel welcoming, calm, and elegant, offering a boutique experience that supports reflection, safety, and real connection. You’re welcome here.
Insurance, Fees, and Payment
-
We’re a private pay practice, which means we don’t work directly with insurance companies. Many of our clients choose to submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and we’re glad to provide the necessary documentation to support that process.
-
Private pay means you pay us directly at the time of your session. If you have out-of-network mental health benefits through your insurance plan, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement. We’ll provide superbills and any supporting paperwork you may need, always promptly and with care.
-
$175 for sessions with LMSWs and provisionally licensed clinicians
$200 – for fully licensed therapists (LCSWs, LMHCs, etc.)
$225 – for doctoral-level clinicians, including licensed psychologists and postdoctoral fellows
We believe in transparency. These rates reflect the therapist’s training level, clinical experience, and the boutique experience we provide, both in person and virtually. -
Yes. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are available through our Advanced Fellowship Program. Fees for this program typically range from $75–$150, depending on availability and financial need. We aim to offer thoughtful care that’s both high-quality and reasonably accessible.
-
Payment is processed securely at the time of your session using your preferred credit or debit card. Receipts are automatically generated, and we can issue monthly superbills upon request.
-
Yes. While we don’t bill insurance directly, we support clients in submitting out-of-network claims. You’ll receive clear, itemized superbills, and if you’re unsure how to navigate reimbursement, we’re happy to walk you through it.
-
We don’t charge administrative or coordination fees. The only additional cost you may encounter is for late cancellations or missed appointments (see our cancellation policy). Otherwise, what you see is what you pay, no surprises.
Starting Therapy
-
Just reach out. You can complete our questionnaire to match with a therapist or email us directly, and someone from our team will follow up to learn a bit about what you're looking for. From there, we’ll recommend a therapist or invite you to explore our team bios to see who feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure. We want you to feel at home from the very beginning.
-
Yes. Many clients come in knowing what kind of person they’d like to work with, while others prefer guidance. We’re happy to support either approach. You can review our therapists’ bios and request someone directly, or we can make a thoughtful match based on your needs, preferences, and availability.
-
That’s very common. Our intake process includes space for conversation. We’ll ask a few simple questions, listen carefully, and help you connect with a therapist who feels like the right match for you. This is a collaborative process, not an algorithm.
-
Most sessions are 45–50 minutes long, once a week. Some clients prefer longer or more frequent sessions depending on what they’re working through. We’ll tailor the cadence to your goals and preferences.
-
Weekly sessions are the standard, though many clients choose to meet more frequently during transitional or emotionally demanding times. This is something you and your therapist will decide together, based on what feels supportive and sustainable.
-
At this time, our focus is on individual therapy for adults and emerging adults. If you're seeking couples or family therapy, we’re happy to refer you to trusted colleagues in our extended network.
Cancellations and Policies
-
We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. This helps your therapist hold that time for you, and also allows us to offer it to someone else who may be waiting. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours notice are charged at the full fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for you.
-
Yes, we reserve your session time just for you, so late cancellations and missed appointments are billed at the full session rate. We know life happens, and occasional emergencies are handled with care and understanding, but we also hold the therapy space with respect for your time, your therapist’s time, and the therapeutic process itself.
-
If you’re running late, your session will still wrap up at the scheduled time so your therapist can be fully present for the person after you. To give yourself some breathing room, we recommend logging on a few minutes early if you're meeting virtually, or arriving early if you're coming to the office. If we haven’t heard from you and it’s been more than 20 minutes, it will be considered a no-show.
-
Therapy tends to be most meaningful when the work continues between sessions. Many clients take time to reflect, journal, or explore insights on their own throughout the week. While our therapists don’t provide ongoing text support between sessions, we're here to support you during scheduled time together. If something urgent comes up, you’re always welcome to reach out to book an additional session. If safety is ever a concern, please use appropriate crisis resources, as Insight is not a crisis center.
Telehealth and Technology
-
Virtual sessions are held via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms. You’ll receive a unique link from your therapist before your appointment, and you can log in from any private space, whether that’s home, work, or wherever you feel comfortable. All you need is a quiet place, a stable internet connection, and a little time carved out for yourself.
-
Yes. Decades of research, along with our own clinical experience, show that teletherapy works just as well as in-person sessions for most people. Many clients appreciate the flexibility, convenience, and privacy it offers. Some even find that blending virtual and in-person sessions over time fits their lives best.
-
Absolutely. We use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video platforms to keep your sessions confidential and protected. We also ask that you find a private, quiet space on your end to help maintain that same sense of safety. Therapy is a personal and trusted space, and we take every step to honor and protect it.
-
Yes. Many clients find a hybrid approach works well: meeting in person when they can and switching to virtual sessions when life calls for it. Whether you’re traveling, feeling unwell, or just want the comfort of home, we’ll help you find a rhythm that feels flexible and supportive.
-
Most of our therapists use secure versions of Zoom or Google Meet. You’ll get a link directly from your therapist or through our scheduling system. Usually, there’s no need to download any software ahead of time unless your therapist lets you know otherwise.
Clinical Credentials and Approach
-
Our team includes LMSWs, LCSWs, LMHCs, postdoctoral fellows, and licensed psychologists. Some are early in their careers and work under close clinical supervision. Others are seasoned clinicians with years of experience. What unites our team is a shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and continued learning; every therapist here engages in weekly professional development to sharpen their craft and deepen their presence.
-
Each license reflects a different training path and level of clinical experience:
LMSWs (Licensed Master Social Workers) have earned a master’s degree and are completing clinical hours under supervision.
LCSWs (Licensed Clinical Social Workers) are fully licensed and independently qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions.
LMHCs (Licensed Mental Health Counselors) are master’s-level clinicians with specialized training in psychotherapy.
Psychologists hold doctoral degrees (PhD or PsyD) and bring advanced training in assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy.
All are deeply trained in providing high-quality care. At Insight, each therapist is selected not only for their credentials, but for how they relate to people with presence, humility, and skill.
-
Yes, clinicians who are not yet fully licensed are closely supervised by licensed professionals. Supervision is not just a requirement; it’s a value. We believe that collaborative reflection makes for stronger clinicians and better care. All Insight supervisors are seasoned professionals committed to mentorship and ethical practice.
-
Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-based and relational models, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based therapy, and attachment theory. Rather than one-size-fits-all, we take a tailored approach, responsive to who you are and what you're seeking.
-
In most cases, we do not. Our practice focuses on therapeutic work, not forensic or administrative evaluations. If you’re seeking documentation for a legal matter, disability claim, or ESA, we’re happy to refer you to providers who specializes in that kind of support.
What if I still have questions?
We’re here to help. If there’s something you’re still wondering about, whether it’s how to choose a therapist, what your first session might be like, or how to get started, we’d be glad to walk you through it.
