Therapy for Creatives in NYC

Alyssa Digges, MHC

“Your creativity thrives when you do. Let’s work together to nurture your whole self.

Meet Alyssa

Are you ready to feel more grounded, confident, and connected to your creative work? Many artists and young adults find themselves navigating anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt, especially in high-pressure, unpredictable fields.

With a background in the performing arts and master’s degrees in both Educational Theatre and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I understand the unique challenges performers, writers, artists, and other creatives face. I work from a person-centered, collaborative perspective, drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices to help you reconnect with your values and move toward the life you want.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and a therapist experienced in kink-positive and polyamory-competent care, I’m committed to creating a safe, affirming space for exploring identity, relationships, and boundaries. Whether we’re tackling perfectionism, building resilience, or exploring identity and relationships, my goal is to create a safe, affirming space where you can be fully yourself.

My goal is to help you cultivate self-compassion, reclaim your sense of purpose, and align your daily choices with what matters most. Therapy can be a place to not only navigate challenges, but also rediscover joy, creativity, and a deeper sense of fulfillment, both on and off the stage.

My Therapy Style

  • It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, but you don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning. Therapy is a space where we can explore together at your pace. I don’t see therapy as “fixing” what’s wrong, but as recognizing patterns, gaining insight, and uncovering your strengths and values to guide you toward a more fulfilling life. I know it can feel scary to open up, but I’m not here to judge. I’m here to listen, support, and walk alongside you. I’ll be on your team, offering compassion, respect, and gentle guidance every step of the way.

  • I’ve been in therapy for many years, and the most inspiring people for me have been the therapists I’ve worked with as a client. I’ve used them as guideposts, identifying what has worked and what hasn’t, what I want to emulate, and what hasn’t been the right fit. My first therapist, Nikki, made a lasting impact on me. She approached me with warmth and genuine care, while also challenging me to grow and guiding me toward my best self. I strive to bring that same balance of kindness, understanding, and thoughtful challenge into my own work with clients.

  • I have a morning practice where I burn incense, meditate, reflect on gratitude, and say a few affirmations. Mornings have never been easy for me, but this ritual helps me look forward to the day and begin it feeling grounded, mindful, and ready to engage with whatever comes my way.

  • I don’t go to many concerts, but I do see Broadway shows whenever I can. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but the most powerful one I’ve seen was Suffs, written by and starring Shaina Taub. The show was a stunning mix of raw emotion, joy, grief, and inspiration, a reminder of the ongoing fight for the world we want to create.

  • Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change.

    Brené Brown

  • No matter what your age or your life path, whether making art is your career or your hobby or your dream, it is not too late or too egotistical or too selfish or too silly to work on your creativity.

    Julia Cameron

  • If you feel something calling you to dance or write or paint or sing, please refuse to worry about whether you’re good enough. Just do it. Be generous. Offer a gift to the world that no one else can offer: yourself.

    Glennon Doyle

  • You don't have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.

    Dan Millman

LET’S BEGIN

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT STARTING THERAPY

  • Just reach out. You can complete our questionnaire to match with a therapist or email us directly, and someone from our team will follow up to learn a bit about what you're looking for. From there, we’ll recommend a therapist or invite you to explore our team bios to see who feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure. We want you to feel at home from the very beginning.

  • Yes. Many clients come in knowing what kind of person they’d like to work with, while others prefer guidance. We’re happy to support either approach. You can review our therapists’ bios and request someone directly, or we can make a thoughtful match based on your needs, preferences, and availability.

  • That’s very common. Our intake process includes space for conversation. We’ll ask a few simple questions, listen carefully, and help you connect with a therapist who feels like the right match for you. This is a collaborative process, not an algorithm.

  • Most sessions are 45–50 minutes long, once a week. Some clients prefer longer or more frequent sessions depending on what they’re working through. We’ll tailor the cadence to your goals and preferences.

  • Weekly sessions are the standard, though many clients choose to meet more frequently during transitional or emotionally demanding times. This is something you and your therapist will decide together, based on what feels supportive and sustainable.

  • At this time, our focus is on individual therapy for adults and emerging adults. If you're seeking couples or family therapy, we’re happy to refer you to trusted colleagues in our extended network.
